Hummus recipe

Have you ever prepared hummus? And I say prepare because in this recipe one does not even have to cook!! It’s delicious and easy… so I do it very often!

For this recipe you’ll need:

a pot (or a can) of cooked chickpeas
2 tablespoons tahini paste
two cloves of garlic
the juice of half a lemon
a little of olive oil
a glass of water  (I know my glass is not full, but it is only because it is huge).
red sweet pepper and cumin at taste

In case you are wondering.. tahini is a paste made from sesame seeds. I have never attempted to try to do it but if you wanna give it a try I would recommend you this recipe. If you do not want the hassle, you can do like me and buy it in a pot and keep it in the fridge (it lasts a long time) so you always have it in hand when you feel like doing hummus. At least in Spain it is not very easy to find it, but I buy mine at an organic food grocery store. I guess that other shops that sell “special” food or mid eastern food will have it as well.

Well, lets get started! First of all, chop the garlic to small pieces and put it into the bowl.

Then add the chickpeas and the two spoons of tahini and the glass of water.

Now purée it all  with a blender or a food processor and when everything starts looking smooth add the cumin. Be careful with the cumin because, although it tastes great, and to me adds that special touch to the hummus, it is quite strong and it’s easy to put too much. What I do is add a little, blend the hummus some more, then taste it and repeat until I am satisfied.

Finally, once in the final bowl, you can add an sprinkle of red pepper to add some more taste and make it look nice!

How I most enjoy hummus is with crude veggies like carrot and zucchini. I cut them to sticks so I can dip on the hummus. It also goes great to accompany grilled fish such as salmon or tuna, in salads, spread on bread… as you see I like it so much I find excuses to put it anywhere!!

Hope you enjoy it!!
